Template > Response Spectrum EC8 - Elastic

Generation of the elastic response spectrum according to Eurocode 8

SettingDescription
Option: Horizontal/Vertical Selection of the response spectra to be generated
Type Type of the response spectrum in reference to the definitions in the Eurocode (Type1, Type2, User-defined)
Ground type

Ground type of the response spectrum in reference to the definitions in the Eurocode (Ground type A to E)

Selecting Type and Ground Type will automatically fill the default values of S, TB, TC and TD according to the definitions in the Eurocode. User-defined values can be given when selecting the option User-defined in Type.

S (-) Soil factor (dimensionless)
TB (s) Lower limit of the period of the constant spectral acceleration branch (in seconds)
TC (s) Upper limit of the period of the constant spectral acceleration branch (in seconds)
TD (s) Value defining the beginning of the constant displacement response range of the spectrum (in seconds)
Damping ratio ξ (%) Viscous damping ratio in terms of percent
η (-)

Damping correction factor (dimensionless)

(Evaluated from Damping ratio and informatively displayed)

Output variable

Name of the variable that describes the response spectrum

The default name will be set up as EC8_Se and EC8_Sve respectively. A two-digit alpha-numeric suffix can be added to that names (e.g. in case that more than one response spectrum is generated to not overwrite the existing ones).

The variable (and the related variables, formulas and tables) is stored in Properties > Variables and can be used when defining the earthquake load (Schedule > Load Definition > Earthquake Load).

The variable describing the response spectrum will be given in terms of Se/ag (-) and Sve/avg (-) as a function of the period T (s).

Therefore the respective design ground accelerations must be considered when defining the vectors within the earthquake load definition.
